Privacy Policy

Short version

We do not set cookies, show third-party advertising, run tracking scripts or build profiles of readers. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it against attacks and provides privacy-friendly visitor statistics.

Cloudflare

OtakuDown uses Cloudflare as its content delivery and security network. Every request to the site passes through Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address, browser user agent and the requested page in order to deliver the site and block abuse. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.

To tell people apart from automated traffic, Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies, such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance. They are not used for advertising or to follow you across websites.

Visitor statistics

We use two privacy-friendly ways to see which articles are read. Neither uses cookies or stores anything in your browser.

Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page views, referring websites, countries, browser and device types, and how fast pages load. It does not record the query parameters of page addresses.

Our own counter records the page address without query parameters, the referring website, campaign tags (utm parameters) when present, the country and a general device type (desktop, tablet or mobile). To count daily unique visitors, it creates a one-way hash from the IP address, the browser user agent and a random value that is replaced every day. The old random value is deleted, so the hash cannot be linked back to a person or across days. IP addresses are not stored.

Local storage

If you switch between light and dark mode, that choice is saved in your own browser and is never sent to us.

Embedded videos

Some articles include YouTube videos. They only load after you click to play them, using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. Once loaded, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.

Sponsors

Sponsored links are labeled. We count clicks on them as a daily total, without any identifier.

Server logs

Cloudflare and our hosting provider may keep standard server logs for security and abuse prevention.
