Google Takedown Data: 70 Million Manga URLs, Most Filed for Viz Media
OtakuDown analyzed Google's takedown data for 15 manga piracy sites. Viz Media dominates, while Korean webtoon firms and Kodansha lead at newer sites.
Rights holders have asked Google to remove more than 70 million URLs from 15 manga piracy sites, according to Google's copyright data analyzed by OtakuDown. Nearly two thirds were filed for one company, Viz Media.
Most of those Viz Media requests target a single site, MangaPark, which drew most of its reports between 2017 and 2019. For the sites that came after, Korean webtoon companies and Japan's Kodansha file a larger share of the requests.
How the numbers were collected
The figures come from Google's Transparency Report, using the same method as OtakuDown's look at anime sites. They cover ten active sites from the top of EverythingMoe's manga and manhwa lists and five large sites that have closed or been suspended.
Where a site has used several domains with the same name, the domains were added together. MangaDex, which hosts uploads from scanlation groups and removes titles when rights holders ask, was left out of the comparison.
The counts are URLs listed in removal requests, not URLs Google removed. Google's public data runs to early May 2026.
A long manga series can have hundreds of chapters, each with its own URL, so the totals are not comparable with anime sites. Some sites, Bato.to in particular, ran on more domains than the data set covers.
MangaPark and Viz Media
MangaPark alone accounts for 47.9 million URLs, or 68% of the total. Viz Media is listed as the copyright owner for 41.3 million of them.
Most of MangaPark's total came in three years: 10.1 million URLs in 2017, 19.1 million in 2018 and 8.1 million in 2019. Nearly all of its requests were filed by Remove Your Media, the Texas anti-piracy company that also filed most requests against anime sites. MangaPark went offline with the Bato.to network in January 2026.
Across all 15 sites, Viz Media accounts for 45.3 million URLs, or 64% of the total.
Bato.to's final years
Bato.to has 8.6 million URLs on record across the six domains in the data set, and almost all of them came in its last four years. Rights holders reported 860,000 URLs in 2022, 2 million in 2023, 2.3 million in 2024 and 3.2 million in 2025, before the site went offline in January 2026.
Viz Media leads Bato.to's copyright owners with 1.5 million URLs, followed by Kakao with 742,000, Kodansha with 606,000 and WEBTOON Entertainment with 596,000. The requests were filed mainly by comeso, Remove Your Media and Marq Vision.
The active sites
Mangago, active since at least 2014, has 8.4 million URLs on record, more than any other active site. It drew 922,000 in the first four months of 2026 alone, two thirds of all URLs reported across the 15 sites in that period.
- Mangago: 8.4 million URLs, led by Viz Media, Kidari Studio and Lezhin, WEBTOON Entertainment and Naver Webtoon.
- MangaFire: 693,105 URLs since 2023, led by Viz Media with 34% and WEBTOON Entertainment with 16%.
- Comix: 188,415 URLs, 175,000 of them in the first four months of 2026. Kodansha, Kakao and Kidari Studio and Lezhin each account for 15 to 18%. Kakao filed its requests itself.
- Toonily: 104,594 URLs, led by the Korean webtoon platforms Toomics, Kakao and Toptoon.
- Weeb Central: 37,691 URLs, nearly half for Kodansha.
- MangaTaro: 22,829 URLs, all for Kodansha.
- Kagane: 18,313 URLs, split mainly between Kodansha and WEBTOON Entertainment.
- Atsumaru: 15,448 URLs, 83% for Kodansha.
- Mangadotnet: no records. Mangaball: only 82 URLs from 2017 and 2018, which may concern an earlier site on the same domain.
Closed and suspended sites
KaliScan and its earlier name ManhuaScan have 4.4 million URLs on record, 4.1 million of them on manhuascan.io, with a peak of 2.7 million in 2023. WEBTOON Entertainment is the largest copyright owner, with 29%. The domain was suspended by its registrar in October, after Google's data ends, along with MGJinx, which has 139,157 URLs on record.
Comick, which closed in September 2025, has 94,264 URLs on record, 44% of them for Kodansha and 12% for Shueisha. Rights holders kept reporting Comick URLs in 2026.
Who files the requests
Without MangaPark, the picture shifts toward Korea. Of the remaining 22.7 million URLs, companies in the Naver group, including WEBTOON Entertainment and Naver Webtoon, account for 5.5 million. Viz Media follows with 4 million, then Kidari Studio and Lezhin with 3.6 million and Kakao with 1.2 million.
Japanese publishers file far less under their own names. Kodansha, the most active, has about 1.1 million URLs across the 15 sites, ahead of Shueisha, Kadokawa and Shogakukan with roughly 300,000 to 430,000 each.
Kodansha leads at several newer sites, including Atsumaru, MangaTaro, Weeb Central, Kagane, Comick and Comix. Most of its requests there were filed by Sentinel - Copyright Guardian.
Remove Your Media filed 77% of all URLs across the 15 sites, mostly against MangaPark. Without MangaPark, Remove Your Media, Marq Vision and comeso file most of the requests.
The records for each domain, copyright owner and reporting company are public on Google's Transparency Report.
